HAPPY HALLOWEEN!!!

(via Movie Poop Shoot)

WebCam Central : Cams by Location : Philippines

Okay. After that Traffic Cam thing in Toronto, I found this website that has images, updated every five seconds, of two Philippine streets. Masankay street in Tondo (something wrong with this link, though) and the Ortigas Flyover in San Juan.

On view below are two angles of the Ortigas Flyover in real time. I mean real time as in now. It won't update every five secs like in the WebCam Central website though.

Enjoy Manila Traffic!

Because of this picture, Michael Hanscom got fired from Microsoft.

Here's why.

Celebs are wound up about their watches

Ritmo Mundo? La D de Dior? Red Monkey?

Nope, these are not rappers. They're watch brands and are on the up and up right now. Check out what's hot with these and who wears them.

Thousands Given Wrong STD Results

"...About 3,000 people got the wrong results when they were tested for gonorrhea and chlamydia over an 18-month period...
In other words, if you were a positive, you would have received a negative reading. If you were a negative, you would have received a positive reading...

Ummm... but if you were neutral...

Toronto Canada - Live Traffic Cameras

I don't know but I get a kick out this! Dozens upon dozens of available live traffic camera feeds all over Toronto.

Lazy guide to the internet

This article is a big sheebang of conspiracy theories that would really blow your mind away.

Really entertaining. All the more if you check out the referring links.

Free Webcast of World AIDS Day Concert

A concert in support of World AIDS Day featuring artists such as Anastacia, Beyonce, Bono, Eurythmics, and The Corrs will be broadcast live over the internet via Tiscali. As far as I know, this will be a free webcast (just like that free one by Pearl Jam two months ago over Real Audio). So tune in to this site on November 29.

I hear Bono is going to play a new song: 46664 (Long Walk to Freedom).

Hear the sound of Big Bang on the internet

Before you react, this is not a porno site.

It's about THE Big Bang. You know, how the universe started? Anyway;

"The Big Bang wasn't a big bang: it was "rather like a large jet plane flying 100ft above your house in the middle of the night", according to a physicist who has recreated the noise of the universe's first moments."

And you can hear it here.

Thanks to Kathryn for the updated site.

American Rhetoric.com

This one is for Belle.

American Rhetoric.com is a cornucopia of speeches, sermons, and spoken whatnot from all sources from public speaking to movies. I got the link of Henry V and Braveheart mp3s from this site. It contains the following:

1. Index to and growing database of 5000+ full text, audio and video (streaming) versions of public speeches, sermons, legal proceedings, lectures, debates, interviews, other recorded media events, and a declaration or two.

2. 200+ short audio clips from well-known speeches, movies, sermons, popular songs, and sensational media events by famous (and infamous) politicians, actors, preachers, athletes, singers, and other noteworthy personalities.

3. Complete index to and partial database of the 100 most significant American political speeches of the 20th century, according to 137 leading scholars of American public address.

Killing Endangered Species to Save Them

"...The boneheads in charge of administering our nation's policies toward the world's endangered species have decided that the way to "save" Asian elephants, Amazon parrots, and other species threatened with extinction – is to kill them!..."

Hey! That's what we do here in the Philippines. The way we get rid of corrupt, stupid, ignorant, and greedy politicians is to elect them.

FROM BRAVEHEART

I just listened to "The Feast of Saint Crispin" from Henry V as delivered by Kenneth Brannagh. Five times! Man, that's one powerful delivery.

Anyway, I rememered another one. Just as powerful and striking. It's the Freedom Speech from Braveheart.

Alba gu bra!!!

"Wallace: Sons of Scotland, I am William Wallace.

Young soldier: William Wallace is 7 feet tall.

Wallace: Yes, I've heard. Kills men by the hundreds, and if he were here he'd consume the English with fireballs from his eyes and bolts of lightning from his arse. I am William Wallace. And I see a whole army of my countrymen here in defiance of tyranny. You have come to fight as free men, and free men you are. What would you do without freedom? Will you fight?

Veteran soldier: Fight? Against that? No, we will run; and we will live.

Wallace: Aye, fight and you may die. Run and you'll live -- at least a while. And dying in your beds many years from now, would you be willing to trade all the days from this day to that for one chance, just one chance to come back here and tell our enemies that they may take our lives, but they'll never take our freedom.

Wallace and Soldiers: Alba gu bra! (Scotland forever!)
"

Dead or Alive?

"Ever wanted to know if a famous person was dead or alive? This website will help you find out... As of October 29, 2003 this website lists 6619 famous (and semi-famous) people from various walks of life - entertainment, politics, sports, music, law, ... and others..."

I didn't know Norman Mailer, JD Salinger and Charles Manson are still alive. But I kind of missed out on Strom Thurmond who just died last June.

And did you know that Al Capp has been dead since 1979? Wow! Dead and still making cartoons! Oh... I was thinking of Andy Capp. Sorry. Al Capp did Li'l Abner.

So who does Andy Capp?

Reg Smythe?

Oh... well, he's dead too. That's a real bummer. Great cartoon too.

Motherhood 'improves the brain'

"Believe it or not, becoming a mother may actually make you calmer under pressure, according to US researchers..."

It may make the mother calmer, but have they asked the fathers?

99 Cents Only Stores to Sell 9 Color TVs and 99 Scooters for Only 99 Cents

"Sharp 19-inch Color TVs will be sold for only 99 cents to the first nine customers, and Scooters to the next 99 customers..."

Whoa! If only we have retail promos like that over here.

Rabbis back Israeli 'guard pigs'

"An organisation in Israel has gained rabbinical approval to train pigs to guard Jewish settlements in the West Bank... according to the Muslim faith, a terrorist who touches a pig is not eligible for the 70 virgins in heaven..."

This is kind of way off target but this reminds me of that piece of opinion that the US Embassy here in the Philippines uses the visa applicants as a human shield against any attack. That's when my brother and I were applying for one. Well, I don't mean it THAT way. ummm... I mean.... ummmm.... my brother is not a pig.

CIA - The World Factbook -- Philippines

This is one of my links (the ones on the left). You can find it on the Government Sites bar or whatever that thing that goes down when you click on it is called.

Anyway, I just want to browse over some of what it contains:

The Philippines.

Natural hazards: astride typhoon belt, usually affected by 15 and struck by five to six cyclonic storms per year; landslides; active volcanoes; destructive earthquakes; tsunamis

Religions:Roman Catholic 83%, Protestant 9%, Muslim 5%, Buddhist and other 3%
Area - comparative: slightly larger than Arizona
Debt - external: $60.3 billion (2002)
Telephones - mobile cellular: 11.35 million (2001)
Internet users: 4.5 million (2002)
Airports - with paved runways:82
Airports - with unpaved runways:175
Sex ratio:
at birth: 1.05 male(s)/female
under 15 years: 1.04 male(s)/female
15-64 years: 0.99 male(s)/female
65 years and over: 0.77 male(s)/female
total population: 1 male(s)/female (2003 est.)

Okay now,

1. Natural Hazards they should put in stupid politicians and their relatives.
2. Isn't it scary that our airports are categorized under Paved and Unpaved?
3. How big is Arizona?
4. Contrary to what I heard, our sex ratio is 1 to 1. I guess, they didn't account for the homosexuals which would tip the ratio a bit towards the females.
5. Funny that there is a section on the Military but none for the Police. I guess the CIA thinks that they're virtually non-existent.

Mandrake Linux 9.2 might damage LG CD-ROM drives

"A problem has been discovered with certain LG-based CD-ROM drives and Mandrake Linux 9.2. The kernel that comes shipped with Mandrake Linux 9.2 and early updates would send a FLUSH_CACHE command to the drive which would make drive inoperable by overwriting its firmware."

Public service here. So check out your CD ROM. If it's an LG then don't install Mandrake Linux 9.2!

Red wine could cure smoking disease

"London - Red wine could be used to treat a lung disease that is caused by smoking, researchers at Imperial College London said in a paper published Tuesday in a British medical journal."

Wow! Alcoholism can cure smoking! Drop that lighter and down that glass boys!

Kids in homes with heavy TV use may have reading trouble

"...The report's director, Victoria Rideout, said the findings show there are good parts about kids watching TV and using computers, but there are downsides, too.
'These kids will have a great advantage in terms of how media can aide their learning, but parents must understand the pitfalls,' she said.
The report showed that parents have a largely positive view about TV and computers --72 percent say computers mostly help in children's learning and 43 percent felt that way about television...
"

Wonder if I should get a lighter TV?

Oh and I do agree on how TV can teach kids too. My two daughters now can sing the Spaghetti Song and do the otso-otso (the new dance craze here) perfectly. Thank you TV!

Hackers defense: The computer did it

"SAN FRANCISCO, California (Reuters) -- Prosecutors looking to throw the book at accused computer hackers have come across a legal defense expected to become even more widespread in an era of hijacked PCs and laptops that threatens to blur the lines of personal responsibility: the computer did it."

That's like running over someone and telling the cops that the car did it.

Germans Have the Most Web Sites

"An OECD study has shown that proportionally more Germans have personal Web sites than anywhere else. Germany had 84.7 Web sites per 1,000 people in 2002, followed by Denmark (71.7) and Norway (66.4)."

Off topic: People from Germany are germans, Denmark are danish. So what do we call people from Norway? Norish?

Just joking. I know they're called Norans.

Aide appologises after urinating whilst drunk on Philippine leader's jet

"A top Philippine civil servant has apologised for urinating in the cabin of the president's jet."

Drunk in the Presidents plane. What else is new. Oh, and was this in the Local Papers?

Hmmm... wonder what Bayani Fernando thought about this. Maybe, the airline should put in those pink urinals just like those in the streets. Maybe that's where he's accustomed to.

Maybe, he was looking for a tree or something.

Wonder if he also does that in Malacanang Palace? Oh wait, I have the opinion that Government keeps pissing on the public anyway.

James Bond Digital Camera

"This hyper-cool little zippo-shaped camera is a wonderful point-and-click multi-function wizard.
Slipping neatly into the tiniest of pockets, the 'lighter' top simply flips open; you just point and click. It's a small miracle packed with a mighty 7 different functions: a stills camera; a video clip recorder; a web camera; a voice recorder; a data storage device; a quick-shot feature (just flip the lid to shoot, no turning on necessary), and of course, vital for every spy, a Surveillance mode...
"

Ok, after the camera phone, we have the camera lighter. But no matter where they can stick that camera in? I probably won't look good in any of it. Well, unless they make one that can make me look thinner and less goofier.

Newly Discovered Blog of the ummm... Week: blackblog

If you want a somewhat Filipino slant on goings on in US Politics and whatnot, this blog is it.

Sprinkled around are her daily goings on, just like other blogs.

Anyway, one gripe though is that the comment page needs registration. Probably to avoid being "flyblogged".

Local News of the Day: Diarrhea downs 300 in Tondo

"...Maynilad conducted tests on water samples randomly taken from 18 sites in the affected area and it was discovered that the tap water had very low to zero traces of residual chlorine.
Chlorine, a chemical infused into the water during treatment in reservoirs, is intended to kill disease-causing micro-organisms.
Following the outbreak, Maynilad performed emergency treatment of the water supply by injecting chlorine into the pipes.
"

OK, what does "low to zero traces of residual chlorine" mean? It means that there was no chlorine added?!

I'm not a waterist or whatever the term is but doesn't that mean that Maynilad was at fault here? Instead of focusing on Davide, Lacson, or whoever is the target for the month is, let's focus on the BASIC SERVICES that government privatized and is not delivering.

Remember a couple of years ago when Maynilad supplied us with colored water and they were not even fined? Who owns Mayni.... ooops. Maybe there is a reason and they're not at fault after all.

Oh and finally, to get the attention of the politicians, Inquirer should rephrase it at 300 REGISTERED VOTERS downed in Tondo. If they were in Friendster, they would have around 5 million within their personal network.

Too much coffee can induce aggression and paranoia

"People who drink too much coffee are at risk of caffeine psychosis, according to a new report. It found that too much caffeine can lead to marked changes in personality and make drinkers more aggressive, anxious and temperamental.

'Caffeinism' puts sufferers at further risk of anxiety neurosis, irregular heart beats, insomnia, muscle twitches, and nervous irritability.
"

I haven't noticed any aggressive, anxious or temperamental people around Starbucks. One thing I noticed though is how most, if not all, the people kind of stop at the same time and stare at the new person coming in.

SCIENCE FACT OR FICTION? HOW THEY MEASURE UP

Here's a rundown on superheroes and if they can (with the help of science) be done or be created.

example:

"The Incredible Hulk

Born: May 1962 in Marvel Comics.

Fictional powers: Dr Bruce Banner is exposed to gamma rays. He turns into a green monster with huge strength when he gets angry.

And science says: Gamma radiation causes sickness, cancer and death. But the Hulk could, in theory, be created by using anabolic steroids and genetically altering his skinwith genetic material from jellyfish.
"

Chopsticks can lead to osteoarthritis

"WASHINGTON : Frequent use of chopsticks can lead to hand osteoarthritis, the most common form of arthritis caused by excessive use of joints, says a study presented at the American College of Rheumatology Annual Scientific Meeting in Orlando , Florida , recently."

First it was the MSG, now it's the chopsticks. Man, Chinese food is getting a beating these days.

Gadget may wreak traffic havoc

"Tired of sitting at endless red lights? Frustrated by lights that turn from green to red too quickly, trapping you in traffic?...dashboard device that changes traffic lights from red to green, making nasty commutes a thing of the past..."

This device would be fun here in the Philippines. But then again, even with the traffic lights, there's still traffic. Wonder if there's a device that makes the traffic enforcers go awat?

ALMOST FORGOT

October 25 was Saint Crispin's Day.

Check out my old post regarding this.

The link to Kenneth Brannagh's mp3 still works too.

Get thrills out of the 'Orgasm Pill'

"... This special pill will allow people to climax without having sex, which could be quite handy for oldies, says The Sun. "

Okay, now after thousands of years, the Human Race has reached it's peak. We have invented Sex in a Box. Actually Sex in a Pill. Wow.

So, what's going to be more popular? Viagra or this one?

Turning the Pages on the web

Oh.. you need Macrowave Shockwave to view the pages.

Caxton's Chaucer - view the original Canterbury Tales

The original manuscript of the Canterbuy Tales (one printed around 1476, the other 1483) is available for viewing.

Also the Gutenberg Bible (the original manuscripts) can be viewed at this site, page by page. Click on the Search button.

These are the originals and really a significant part of our literary history!

Wired News: Tech Addicts Need Textual Healing

"Dr. Mark Collins... was reported as saying that patients at the well-known addiction clinic were increasingly displaying compulsive behavior toward their mobile phones.

Collins, head of the addictions unit at the clinic, said that some patients spend up to seven hours a day sending text or SMS messages (as well as hanging out in Internet chat rooms), which in one case even resulted in repetitive strain injury.
"

This doctor should check out the texting habits here in the Philippines. Repetetive Strain Injury will be at an all time high here in about five years.

There's even a Cell Phone/SMS service called ADDICT MOBILE.

Amazon's new search finds kudos

"Call it a Google for books: Amazon's latest feature allows readers to search millions of pages online to browse before they buy.

You think the Necronomicon is available for perusal? :)

Never read a Microsoft Reader eBook before?...you can download best-selling titles from a wide range of notable authors ... for FREE!"

Hey a book for free? Why not?

And if you're in to this, why not check Planet PDF. And also Page by Page Books The two sites also offer a whole bunch of books for free.

Planet PDF has Metamorphosis by Kafka. I hear that book is a little buggy...

MEMORY MORPHING

"You've eaten a chocolate bar and you didn't really like it. Can a commercial afterwards persuade you that you did? 'Memory morphing' could be a powerful weapon for advertisers.... A group of US marketing researchers claim that brand owners can make their customers believe they had a better experience of a product or service than they really did by bombarding them with positive messages after the event. Advocates of the technique, known as 'memory morphing', claim it can be used to improve customers' perceptions of products and encourage them to repeat their purchases and recommend brands to friends."

This is like a brain fu... I mean, is like screwing your brain over. I mean altering your perception of an experience and make it seem like it was better tha.... Wait a minute. ... whoa.

God knows Philippine President GMA needs this by the dozens.

Germans fall for porno karaoke

"Porno karaoke is similar to traditional karaoke - but, instead of standing in for Whitney Houston or Frank Sinatra, contestants belt out the soundtracks of adult movie stars."

And to be clear, these soundtracks aren't songs. Also, it'll make the images more interesting. I mean singing La Vida Loca while showing images of the Great Wall of China is getting really old. I'd take Sunrise Adams and Jenna Haze over the Great Wall anytime.

Wonder if it'll be done here.

LIFE'S QUAINT LITTLE CAKES: A SCRIPT

FADE IN

INT - BEDROOM
1:30 am

A heavy built person is facing a big computer monitor surfing the internet. On the left side of the room, a movie is playing on the television. He stops using the computer for a second and watches the movie. Disinterested, he reaches for the remote control and turns it off, and continues using the computer.

Slowly, a little hand reaches over his neck. The man stifles a mild choke.

FATHER

Gabbi! not too tight I can't breathe!

GABBI
(smiling)

Sorry, papa. I missed you.

FATHER
(softly)

Go to bed. It's late already. You have school tomorrow.

GABBI
(dejected)

Okay. But can I have a drink of water first?

FATHER

Sure. But no funny stuff. Okay?

GABBI

Okay.

While the father continues typing on the keyboard, Gabbi runs over to the small refrigerator at the end of the room. Opens it and looks inside. Instead of getting a drink, she takes out a small plastic bag. Inside, is a FANCY CHIFFON SLICE from Goldilocks Bakery.

She stops and opens the drawer. She gets something and then she runs back to the father.

GABBI

Papa! The cake is going to expire tomorrow! We have to open it now!

FATHER
(amused)

Well, just leave it there and I'll eat it later.

GABBI
(concerned)

Nooo! It's going to expire already! I have to eat it now!

FATHER

Ummm... It's already late. I don't think mama will let you eat it now.

GABBI

Don't wake her up! She might get mad if you wake her up. Just open this so I can eat it already.

FATHER

I don't know about this. Just eat it tomorrow, ok?

GABBI

No. I told you that it's expired tomorrow. I have to eat it now. Here.

Gabbi hand the father a pair of kindergarden scissors which she took from the drawer earlier.

FATHER
(taking the scissors and the cake)

Okay. Can I have some?

GABBI

Okay. Let's share. But I'll half it. Last time you ate the white stuff and left me the brown stuff. You have to half it sideways!

FATHER

You do it then.

Gabbi cuts the cake in half. She looks at the two pieces and gives the bigger one to the father. The father, looks at her, and exhanges the pieces getting the smaller portion.

GABBI

Thank you.

Gabbi scurries into the corner and kneels down. She opens up a coloring book and playfully looks at the pages while eating her cake. The father eats his part in one big bite and continues to use the computer.

After finishing her cake. She stands up, goes to the refrigerator to get a drink of water. She slowly walks towards the father, embraces him and gives him a kiss.

GABBI

Good night, Papa. I love you!

FATHER

Good night baby. I love you too.

Camera pans out as Gabbi climbs back into her bed and the father is still facing the computer.

Why Disney? Why?

As I posted weeks ago, my kids and I have been waiting for Disney channel to show Watership Down again. For months.

Guess what. They showed it last night at 11pm!!! I was so tempted to call home (I work nights, remember?) to wake up the kids but Tess didn't let me. Tess isn't a movie buff like me so she wouldn't understand the feeling.

Checking their guide, they won't be showing it again. Have to check back for their December lineup.

Bummer.

" QUITE often, prospective screenwriters ask us for "sure-fire" tips on how to become successful TV-film writers....we do share these helpful tips based on Marsha Norman's extensive experience in the field-and almost literally written in her own blood..."

These tips are worth their weight in gold (if tips can be weighed, that is).

MEANWHILE, IN OTHER BLOGS...

Budjette is back from the US and is now wild over an upcoming comic book. Well? Krispy Kremes?

cbs is dancing with the Muses and is at the gates of ummm... surreality. Post! Post! Post!

Chris is on his way to Vegas and is also thinking of what to wear on Halloween. Try Groucho.

Freude is an uncle again and still hasn't mentioned his secret. Well! Spill it already!

The blogger formerly known as Gem is still MIA. Hmmmmm.......

John is on vacation to Hawaii! Can't wait for his posts!

Lulu is studying for a test and only when she makes good in Math can she blog again!

Mark made me think about the quality of life, the quantity of death, and the strength of our endurance. Oh and 256 is the smallest 8th power (besides 1).

Rhia has been bitten by the camera bug! Let's see those pictures.

Sinta is truly in love. Awwww.....

Fears over baby food jar cancer - Evening Times

Fears over baby food jar cancer

"Makers of baby foods were today urged to change their packaging methods amid cancer concerns about a possible dangerous chemical..."

Hmmm... I bet this bit of news won't even get picked up here given all the PR machinery of the big companies. Or worse, if it does get banned over in Europe, we'll be getting the stocks here.

We are a society that is based on fear. That's how I understood Michael Moore's message in 'Bowling for Columbine'. And this one bit of news really hits home.

Anyway, the risk according to the authorities is very small. But who'd take that chance? Would you?

Martial arts robots hit Asian tech fair

"Humanoid robots capable of performing somersaults and complex martial arts moves were demonstrated at Asia's largest electronics and computing fair in Tokyo on Saturday."

What's Special About This Number?

Because of this site, I now see that Numbers are fun!

OK. When I was still in school, I always thought that math was really for the uber-smart people. Specially Calculus (both integral and differential) but man!!!! When I saw this site, it just brought out the curiosity in me! All mathematical terms are linked so you can find out what those terms mean...

ex:

6 is the smallest perfect number.
38 is the last Roman numeral when written lexicographically.
42 is the 5th Catalan number.
2285 is a non-palindrome with a palindromic square.
2357 is the concatenation of the first 4 primes.

and on... and on...

This is one of the most original site designs I have ever seen! And I don't know diddly squat about design.

First, I thought it was just a flash video then I noticed little boxes at the bottom. Man, it justs blows you away! Really cool. The music is all too good too.

Oh and check out their other Flash sites:

Ok! As I posted before, the Guestbook just went premium. It reverted back to my very first post and will only display the first ten messages. As I don't have the cash to continue it, I'm switching to Haloscan. Thanks CBS for the site. Well, at least this one doesn't have the confirmation code so I think it's going to work.

ANIMAL MAN

"...Morrison and Chas Troug’s ANIMAL MAN. The Morrison-Troug series was one of the early successes in what would later become the “Vertigo” house style, taking obscure and little-known DC characters and radically rethinking them with a harder edge, following the debut of Neil Gaiman’s celebrated SANDMAN by only eight months. Before we take a closer look at the series, which really broke out Grant Morrison on the American comics scene, let’s take a quick look back at Animal Man, admittedly one of DC’s more obscure characters...."

Yo Budjette! This article recaps DC Comic's Animal Man issues 1 to 26. Really cool. I mean it's even way past cool!!!

Fraport heads say Macapagal lawyer 'asked for millions' - Oct. 15, 2003

" A PERSONAL lawyer of President Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo had demanded "several tens of millions of US dollars" from the German airport operator Fraport AG to facilitate the ouster of its Filipino partner from the Terminal 3 project in Manila's Ninoy Aquino International Airport -- known as NAIA 3 -- so groups favored by Malacañang could take part in the project, according to top officials of the German firm..."

WHAAAT! The gall of these Germans!!! To go to the World Bank and acuse a Filipino Government Official of asking for money? Hah!!! As if they are saying our government officials are corrupt! No siree! Our government has OUR interests as a priority. Not on horses, not on airport concessions, not even on sweepstakes and lotto. There are no corrupt officials over here.

So what if all they are asking now is just to return the money they spent! I say, we all get offended. My gawd! Just the thought of it makes my blood boil. They're the ones who are corrupt not us!

We are predominantly catholic. God fearing. Morally sound. Principled. Disciplined. We do not just bow down and kow tow to others just for money. No way. Our government is the epitome of honesty and integrity.

Let's call CNN, BBC, and FOX. Let us air our indignation over this accusation. Let us broadcast it all over the world!!! I'm willing to bet that those accused would be proud to tell the whole world of their innocence.

Cool site. I spent a long time checking out people who had a shot at fame then suddenly disappeared.

Example, ever wonder what happened to Right Said Fred? Well here it is:

"Real Name: Fred Fairbrass, Richard Fairbrass
Category: One Hit Wonders
Claim To Fame: The bald headed brothers who released what Allmusic.com called perhaps the most ubiquitous novelty song of the '90s, I'm Too Sexy.

Where Are They Now: They have been working on a comeback ever since, Fred opened a gym and Richard went on to present Gaytime TV on BBC2 "

They have entries on Phoebe Cates (yup, She didn't die of AIDS), Catherine Bach, Jan Michael Vincent, Shaun Cassidy, The Cars, and even Dan Quayle!

STOPPED MAKING SENSE

Let's face it, I can't write.

Anything over three paragraphs and I sound like Ah-nuld pitching life insurance over the phone to a three year old during Christmas eve. I'm better off keeping my posts short and pithy. Well with short, I can pull that off. But pithy? Believe me, I've been trying so much, I'm way past pitiful...

Most of the time, I post about interesting sites on the web and squeezed in occasionally are some personal stuff (opinions, feelings, whatnot). There are times when I post an opinion or something and I completely forget what the gist of it is. I have the attention span of a chess player listening to Papa Roach while riding a ship in the middle of the storm playing against a three year old talking on the phone. Ummm... What was my point again?

Most of the visitors who come to my site are from various search engines (do you know that I have had around 76 inquiries about Lala Montelibano? Seems a lot of people have been wanting to get a pic or a snippet of some of her movies). So I really have no set of regular readers who would come in specifically to read me. But I don't acknowledge that. I believe that the 70 or so hits a day (down from my 200+/day during my Lockergnome stint) is specifically for what I have to say about anything. I am the King of Self-Denial, no doubt about it. Actually the highest I ever attained was minion, but who's counting...

So, after all this, what do I have to prove? Let's see:

1. I have established that I can make long unintersting metaphors.
2. I have a problem sticking to the point of the story.
3. I digress with something that just confuses the whole point.
4. I don't really get regular visitors.
5. Lala Montelibano is still hot to around 76 people.

Despite all of this, I will still post, write, carp, harp, and try to be sharp.

Word.

PS
To Lala's fans: she's currently one of the cast of a soap opera over at GMA 7.

MOVIEPOOPER LOOKUP PAGE

Don't understand the ending of the movie? Saw a movie but missed the ending? Just want to find out how the movie ends so you don't have to go through it?

Well, this site is the site for you. It has the endings and spoilers to about 1,182 movies.

For example, never quite understood how Vanilla Sky (Abre los Ojos) ended and what it was all about? Well here it is:

David (Tom Cruise)" ...never did have his face repaired, or see Sofía (Penélope Cruz) after the night he got drunk and passed out on the street. Instead, he signed up to have his body frozen until his condition could be treated, and then killed himself. His entire existence, including the murder, subsequent arrest, and psychiatric treatment, are just part of a virtual reality run by the L.E. (Life Extension) company. Once he figures this out, he is given the option of continuing his virtual life or "awakening" to a reality with a repaired face 150 years in the future. He bids Sofía farewell, and jumps off a tall building in order to "kill" the virtual life..."

3. Pen Medina was in Sa pusod ng dagat (1998) with Elizabeth Oropesa

Why Will No One Take Me Seriously?

"For months now, I've been trying to transfer this darn $20 million out of Nigeria. At first, I thought that a small cash stipend - say, $10,000 - would be enough incentive to encourage someone to help me. THE 100 SCARIEST MOVIE SCENES OF ALL TIME!

"Whether it's that time when a cat jumped out of the closet, or just when you thought Jason was dead and he ended up grabbing someone's ankle, scary scenes have played a delicious role in film history..."

The first ten (100 to 91) are already creepy. Don't know about you but I'm looking forward to numbers 90 to 81!

My favorite for this day is number 97 and 94.

Bloggers to reach 10 million, almost all will give up

"...the fad is most popular amongst teenage girls. More than half of the weblogs surveyed are run by teenagers and 91.1 per cent are under 30. 'Blogging is many things, yet the typical blog is written by a teenage girl who uses it twice a month to update her friends and classmates on happenings in her life,' the report notes...No less than a million of the 2.7 million weblogs surveyed had been abandoned after a day, and 132,000 would-be webloggers gave up after a year."

91.1 percent are under 30? Whoa! So I'm part of the elite 8.9%. Ummm.... should I be proud or am I just getting old.

LEARNING MOMENT

High school in the US was life changing for me. I suddenly went from a hero, here in the Philippines, to a zero, in the US. Blame it on ethnicity, culture, or whatever, point is things changed for me.

I became a nerd.

It was hard to find someone else to pick on since everybody seemed bigger. The culture was different. We had to find someone to pick on, someone "inferior" to us to be accepted as normal. Us weak ones found our someone.

Noel.

In the food chain of my youth, I was worm, but Noel was amoeba. He smelled, had no friends, was in special classes, stuttered, and talked weird things. He was a real push over. Everyone wanted to pick on him. I guess, it was to show to everybody else that "yeah! We are cool since we have someone to bully!"

Noel was the answer to all our insecurities. Someone we can say is lower than us. Someone to pick on to prove to ourselves that our lives are not as crappy as we see it to be.

One time in the library, we bumped into each other, he was reading a Spiderman comic book. I didn't know if he was talking to me (perish the thought that I get caught talking to him!) but he said that if he had powers, he would come back and get even with everybody.

Junior year, Noel didn't come back to school. He transferred out. No one knew where. Maybe it was all the constant humiliation (one time someone sprayed fart spray on his hair during lunch), bullying, and taunting that he got. I remember seeing his father in one of those student-parent meetings, his father looked very concerned and had a long talk with ourcounselorr. At that time, I don't know if I felt sorry for his father but now, as a parent myself, I am.

Anyway, after reading the comment of Sinta on Blogger Power, I remembered him.

I wonder what became of him. How all of this affected his life. If I saw him now, I would apologize to him on how we treated him. No matter what his faults and shortcomings were, he didn't deserve to be treated like that. But I guess it's too late. The damage has been done.

Justice? Quid pro quo, baby, Quid pro quo.

To Noel C of Sacred Heart, class of '87: Please accept my most humble and sincerest apology. I should have treated you the same respect and dignity that everybody deserves.

FRIENDSTER: NOW IN THE PHILIPPINES

Ok, ok, probably not. I mean, Friendster has been around for awhile now but it does seem freaky that just today alone, I heard the site mentioned to me five times from different people.

And just after I signed in (jobert001@hotmail.com), Rhia asked me (thru email) if I am in Friendster! What is this thing anyway?

Is it the newest craze to hit the community after the BLOG? With Blogs, you get to write about your so-called life (which in my case, is less than zero). With Friendster, will it be with so-called friends? How different would it be with REAL life, REAL friends? Can they even be compared? Which is better? "Friendsters" or friends?

I guess the thing going for it is that you get to meet people from people who you already know. Wow.

Thinking about it, I blog and I joined Friendster for these early morning sessions when my insomnia kicks in. Let's see if I get sucked into this like what happened to Budjette.

As for friends, online or offline, you can't have enough of them.

GRANT MORRISON'S "THE INVISIBLES" SCRIPTS

"...Through his seminal stories for Starblazer, 2000 AD, Animal Man and Doom Patrol, Grant Morrison had established a formidable reputation as a writer of seriously dark and adult comic books to rival Alan Moore and Frank Miller. The series that he had always wanted to write--a fusion of every conspiracy theory, counter-culture rebellion and political plot ever--finally became a reality when DC Comic's Vertigo imprint launched the first installment of The Invisibles..."

Oh wait, we don't have the BBC here except the news. So to add to Red Dwarf (the reruns) and Doctor Who (ack!), I have to add The Invisibles to the list of shows I won't be able to watch. Actually that's true for everyone since the series got aborted (I think...).

Oh well, here's the script for the first episode and also here's the second episode script. After all these taiwanese soaps, spanish telenovelas, how about bringing in those British Sci Fi shows. Even the old ones like Sapphire and Steel, UFO, the old Doctor Whos...

Ummm.. maybe Channel 5 can take up the slack since their the ones who seem to be kind of progressive in their programming. Paging Mr. Cojuangco...

OVERREACTED

Did I overreact early last night and this morning? Hmmm... I do that quite often that I am already familiar with the taste of my foot. Both left and right.

Well, I do get cranky in the morning and what I did was uncalled for. Have to apologize to Shona Yu for overreacting like that over the phone.

But last night I got an email from an officemate. He sent us his observations about a client of mine. Without even informing me that he will be visiting him!!! I hardly get personal on this blog but man, I was just so worked up about it. He sent it to my superiors with his comments.

The least he could do was consult me first before firing off that email since I could have answered all points brought up. Well, actually all except one. he...he...he...

But being professional, I dug deep into myself and let it pass. I'm calm now. I probably am just territorial since that was my turf. No harm done. Got nothing to hide. Heck, I even invited him to join my Friendster list!

I REALLY CAN'T WAIT FOR THIS TO COME OUT!

"...I was dazzled by KILL BILL. It's a Quentin thing par excellence and a totally blue-chip experience. It's absurdly bloody and wafer-thin and show-offy as hell. But none of this bothered me (and this is the whole payoff in a nutshell) because it's done so well and it looks so cool..."

From someone who initially disclosed he would dislike the movie, that's something.

Ack! Miramax should at least send me a preview ticket for constantly plugging this! A pack of Red Apples signed by QT would do though...

RSS (HERE I GO AGAIN!)

Got a message from Rhia (my HS Batchmate) that she couldn't get my blog to show up on her RSS Aggregator. I assume LJers has their posts automatically translated into an RSS feed. I have to go through www.blogstreet.com to generate mine. (See that orange XML symbol on the upper left hand of this page? That's my RSS Feed address).

As I am obsessed on RSS, it's simplicity and usefulness, this link does (is?) a primer on it. It even will help cut down on internet connection time if you are on a dial-up connection. There is talk on how RSS can be used to "replace" email since RSS feeds doesn't include ads (well, almost all of them), but I doubt it'll happen in the next few years.

Anyway, if you want to experience RSS, download WildGrape Newsdesk. It already has a set of RSS feeds included in it.
