Well, today, Google Desktop is out of Beta plus it has a new feature. Users can get a search box in the middle of the desktop. Just press the Ctrl key twice. ADDITIONAL
I still can't activate it despite numerous ctrl presses. I think you have to wait for the whole PC to be indexed and restart the computer to use this feature.
