Avilon Zoo

"Why would you want to travel for over an hour just to get to a 7.5-hectare park that contains beautifully landscaped pocket gardens, four man-made lagoons, and more than 3,000 animals belonging to over 500 species?..."

Avilon Montalban Zoological Park in Rodriguez (Montalban), Rizal, Philippines. It's better known by the kids as Avilon Zoo. I mistakenly thought it was named Avalon Zoo. Something I thought was Arthurian in context until I found out it's really called Avilon Zoo which is more Avian in nature. It houses some of the biggest aviaries in the Philippines. In my opinion, it's one of the best zoos to visit here in the Philippines.

The zoo is open everyday from 8am-5pm with guided tours every hour until 3pm. A tour takes about 2 hours. And well worth it. Expect to pay around P50 for photo ops with some of the animals.

Here's the Wikipedia Entry about Avilon Zoo. It's quite sparse but it has two links that are extremely useful. Both have picture galleries of the zoo animals. One has directions to get to Avilon Zoo itself.

The link will point you to a news article about Avilon Zoo, the experience of visiting the zoo and a brief history of the place.
