Email turns 30 Years old

"To most of us, electronic mail is a relatively recent phenomenon. But the first e-mail was sent 30 years ago, after a programmer came up with the "@" symbol format for e-mail addresses..."

Wow. 30 years old. I wonder if Al Gore also invented that?

Oh and here's Ray Tomlinson (the inventor of email?) explaining why he used the @ sign:

"The primary reason was that it made sense. at signs didn't appear in names so there would be no ambiguity about where the separation between login name and host name occurred..."

well, yes the "at" sign didn't appear in names but appears in some names to name names like @ssh*le...
