After 150 Yrs, Western Union Ends Telegram Service

Western Union quietly announced last week that it was exiting the business synonymous with its name for 155 years.
..."Effective January 27, 2006," the company said in a note posted without ceremony on its Web site, "Western Union will discontinue all Telegram and Commercial Messaging services. We regret any inconvenience this may cause you, and we thank you for your loyal patronage."
The Telegram is dead. Long live the Internet.

This one may not take front page but there are a lot of things that are falling in the way of obsolescence that we may not be aware of. I mean, this happened two months ago and no one noticed! Whatever happened to pagers? Or even the telex? In the Philippines, I think that RCPI, the local telegram company, is still operating. Heck! I think we still have places without electricity.

Wonder when the telephone, as it exist now, will be next?
