Grappa

Grappa is a fragrant grape-based pomace brandy of between 38% and 80% alcohol by volume (75 to 160 proof), of Italian origin. Literally "grape stalk", most grappa is made by distilling pomace, grape residue (mainly the skins, but also stems and seeds) left over from winemaking after pressing. It was originally made to prevent waste by using leftovers at the end of the wine season. It quickly became commercialised, mass-produced, and sold worldwide. Some grappa, known as prima uva, is made with the whole grapes. The flavour of grappa, like that of wine, depends on the type and quality of the grape used as well as the specifics of the distillation process.

I just learned to appreciate grappa.

After a bottle of white wine, then red, grappa was an absolute fantastic finisher.

Of course, I'm still distracted with other stuff so posting will be few and far between. Just wanted to post something to let you guys know I'm still around here in the Philippines.

Cloverfield

Real slow posts here since nothing really interesting happening. Been busy on my private blog where a lot of things are just popping up. Interesting for me, utterly boring for others. hehehe.

Anyway, just saw Cloverfield. Well, here's my take on it:

Basic Plot: Guy and friends, go to midtown Manhattan to pick up girlfriend.

General Plot: Guy and friends go to midtown Manhattan to pick up girlfriend while guy's friend videotapes the excursion.

Advanced Plot: Guy and friends go to midtown Manhattan to pick up girlfriend and the guy's friend videotapes the excursion while a monster attacks the city.

Simplified Plot: The Blair Witch Project with Godzilla.

One of the very few movies I watched that I didn't fast forward anything. It's a love it or hate it kind of movie. There's no middle ground for this. As for me, I love it. It's riveting. It's good. It's wow. Words escape me at the moment. JJ Abrams of "LOST" really pulled out the stops with this one. The effects were really top notch but it's done the way, you would experience it. It's like being there, really.

Heck, even Gabbi was glued to the screen.

I mean, literally. I'm scraping her face off of it now as I type...

Steven Spielberg now makes videogames

Steven Spielberg knows a thing or two about action games. He advised on the development of the Medal of Honor series, based on his film Saving Private Ryan, and he claims to be on his second play-through of the processor-punishing PC title Crysis. So it's a bit surprising to learn that for his first venture as a videogame creative director, the man behind Indiana Jones and Jurassic Park is making not a photorealistic shooter but a cross between Tetris and Jenga. It all goes back to when he was a kid, Spielberg says. He'd spend hours setting up his electric trains so that the locomotives would crash into one another. Now, with the help of a design team at Electronic Arts, Spielberg hopes to recapture that spirit of creative destruction in Boom Blox, out in May.

Whoa. Spielberg now forays into videogames. And as the article suggests, he delves into it the same way he does his movies. Boom Blox sounds to be a real great game. I did play Medal of Honor before and that was a fantastic.

The Philippines is a hotspot for gamers that it makes me wonder why Philippine made videogames haven't really picked up. Heck, even for filipino gamers, these locally made games haven't generated much heat.

Anyay, can't wait to check Boom Blox out.
